Quebec City’s Best Egg Rolls

Egg rolls hold a special place in the hearts of Quebecers. They are a takeout staple, often associated with family meals. Their golden, crispy exterior, paired with a flavorful and well-seasoned filling, delivers a comforting and satisfying culinary experience.

Egg rolls in Quebec have evolved to reflect the region’s local culinary diversity. There are versions inspired by Asian traditions, as well as reinvented recipes featuring local ingredients like pork, bison or even Quebec mushrooms. This fusion of tradition and creativity makes them both familiar and unique.

Their popularity also lies in their accessibility. Egg rolls are affordable, easy to share and suit all tastes. Whether for a quick snack or as an accompaniment to a more elaborate meal, egg rolls embody the comforting pleasure of Chinese-Canadian cuisine.

Here are my favourite egg rolls in Quebec City

Épicerie Chanhda in the Saint-Sauveur neighborhood

This recipe is from Maxime Chanhda-Tremblay, chef and owner of Épicerie Chanhda. These are the only egg rolls I’ve tasted that do not contain cabbage. They are primarily made with chicken, carrots, onions, mushrooms and celery.

Restaurant Wong, in Old-Quebec

Restaurant Wong offers the most refined egg rolls in Quebec, made with pork and bison from Quebec. They also contain onions, carrots, a bit of cabbage, garlic, and mushrooms from the Coupe Champignon farm. It’s the hints of ginger, white pepper, and oyster sauce that give this little savory treat its delicious personality.

Restaurant Le Wok, in Loretteville

The egg roll at Restaurant Le Wok in Loretteville is the epitome of classic recipes. Cabbage takes center stage, paired with pork, carrots, onions, and garlic. It’s a bite that evokes the joy of traditional Chinese-Canadian cuisine.
